Project Runway- Episode 3

I really don't like celebrity judges.  Occasionally they pick a judge who is at least known for their fashion taste, etc..(i.e. Victoria Beckham) but then they have people like Sandra Bernard.  What?!  Do we EVER remember her being a fashionista?  NO!  And really all she did was give what she thought was witty comments she didn't actually give any design thoughts/ideas.  Hate it.

On to more exciting things.  Congratulations Kenley!  I cannot say I love the dress, but I understand why the judges liked it and see where you were coming from.  It is fun  and modern and yet feminine.  And I love how this is her view of New York City (the objective of this competition was to take inspiration from the city and create a look)

I really liked Terri's look.  She pulled her inspiration from graffiti that she saw on the street. You cannot see the back of the dress, but it has a really low back that looks really good. I think the dress over pants look can be tricky, but she pulled it off really well.

On to what I cannot stand.  Blayne, How are you still here?  There were some striking similarities between this dress and the one that led to Emily's departure.  I just don't like this look.  And Blayne is odd. What was with him threatening to eat Kenley last night?  Weird.



Stella.  I think she was ONLY able to get away with last night because the city can be "rough" and edgy so leather and studs fit.  Otherwise I don't like the look at all and I have a hard time seeing how the judges could.



And finally Emily.  This dress sent Emily home. I don't like the way the ruffle hits the model's body. Clearly the judges didn't either.  You cannot see it in the picture but it also didn't look like it was finished.  Overall a BIG lesson is to be learned: LISTEN TO TIM.  Whenever Tim gives advice and designers do not listen- that is what the judges knock them for.

I was extremely pleased to see that Suede's dress won last night. Even though the longer Suede is on the program the more that we will have to listen to him refer to himself in third person...

Anyway, it was incredibly genius how he took fabric that was difficult to use (and that other designers had) and was able to make a fun & flirty option for his model.  Love it.

I love Yves Saint Laurent.  I always feel like there is an elegance to the line.  Bergdorf Goodmanjust began promoting their fall ready-to-wear collection and I love it!  Once again YSL delivers a classic, elegant, yet simple line.

 

 

 

Project Runway

So I regret I didn't post sooner about Project Runway.  It's no secret that I LOVE the show.  And I have been looking forward to this new season since the last season ended.  I have been concerned that this season wouldn't be that great given all the circumstances between the show and its network Bravo...as well as Nina's recent job situations, etc... but so far I think this cast will produce some great TV (and fashion).

As the season unfolds I am sure we will get to know the cast a bit more, but some intial thoughts:  1) What is up with a guy being named Suede?  And that Suede constantly refers to himself in third person?  2) Do we not think that Blayne is trying to be Christian with a tan?  I mean seriously..."Girlicious" is not going to be a good tagline...unless you are a Pussycat Doll...and I have no idea what to say about his first attempt at creating clothing and 4) Stella scares me. 

I was however, extremely happy that Kelli won!  I wasn't crazy about the top portion of the dress, but overall I think she showed tremendous creativity and genius in creating her look.

Istanbul

I must apologize for my lack of posting the past three weeks...I was in Istanbul, Turkey for two weeks and then spent a week in recovery trying to adjust back to life.  I promise to be better about posting in the future.

Istanbul was very interesting.  Fashion/trend-wise it was much different than I had assumed it would be.  There were very few covered women and many women who dressed in what I would call typical European style.  While I was there I was able to do a small amount of shopping.  Two of my favorite Turkish stores were Tbox and Mavi.

Many of you have probably heard of Mavi Jeans, they are sold in department stores throughout the U.S. However being a Turkish based company they have lots of stores in Istanbul...that sell more than just jeans...I was able to pick up a t-shirt and and a dress while I was there.

And speaking of t-shirts...I found a very fun store called T-box.  Similar to an "American Apparel" only sold in compressed little squares and circles.  The entire store's inventory was able to fit in two 4X5 ft. shelves.  I bought two skirts and was pleased to find that they were great buys for travel (mainly b/c they fold up easily and are meant to be wrinkled)
